NOME - ALASKA

Description.

The Nome Gold Rush (1899-1909)
The Nome Gold Rush began in 1899 and became one of the largest and most significant gold rushes in Alaskan history. What made Nome's gold rush unique was that gold was found not just in the creeks and rivers but also in the sands along the beaches of the Bering Sea. This made gold relatively accessible, and as news of the gold discovery spread, the population of Nome quickly swelled.

Still to this day gold mining in Nome has persisted. Today, Nome is still known for its gold, and recreational gold prospecting is popular.
